BSMI is the abbreviation of Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection in the Standards Inspection Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan. According to the announcement of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, starting from July 1, 2005, products entering Taiwan must be supervised in terms of electromagnetic compatibility and safety regulations. After 2009, energy efficiency requirements for air conditioners and refrigerators were put in place, and they were included in the scope of control of BSMI.

The holder of the BSMI certificate must be a local Taiwan company. The test report must be issued by a BSMI accredited laboratory in Taiwan. Generally, it is determined by the CCC code of the tariff number whether it falls within the scope of BSMI control. The general CCC code is provided by the manufacturer. CCC code, the Standard Classification of Commodity of The Republic of China Code, similar to the international H.S code.

According to different products and certification requirements, BSMI is divided into the following three authentication modes:

1. Type Approval (TA, Type Approval)

Applicable to motor and electronic products, tube EMC+Safety. Implemented on November 1, 2002, replacing EMC MS, the electromagnetic compatibility management system. For manufacturers that produce a variety of products, the method of batch-by-batch inspection is adopted, and each time the customs purchases, the inspection fee is required. The certificate is valid for 3 years and can be renewed once.

2. Registration of product certification (RPC)

Applicable to motor and electronic products, tube EMC+Safety. Implemented on January 1, 1999. Applicable to manufacturers that produce individual products and must be sold for a long time. There is no need to charge for each subsequent purchase of customs. Annual fees are charged annually. The certificate is valid for 3 years and can be renewed once.

3. Declaration of Conformity (DOC)

The customer self-declared and applied for payment to BSMI on his own. Applicable only to information technology equipment and zero component products, in line with EMC+Safety. Implementation began on January 16, 2000. The certificate is valid forever, but it may be subject to retesting due to the age of the standard.
